Area students were recently named to the President's List for outstanding academic achievement during the Fall 2013 semester at SUNY Canton.
"Congratulations to our President's List students for the Fall Term 2013! The Provost, deans, faculty and I are very proud of the way you applied your best efforts to the semester's coursework," said SUNY Canton Acting President Joseph C. Hoffman. "The work ethic and the enthusiasm for learning you develop here at the College will serve you well in your professional careers after graduation."
To receive President's List honors, full-time students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

1,100 New Students Enroll at SUNY Oneonta
Approximately 1,100 new students, selected from more than 12,000 applicants, began their studies at SUNY Oneonta this fall. Classes began on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
The SUNY Oneonta Class of 2017 is exceptionally talented and diverse, said Roger Sullivan, the college's associate vice president for enrollment management. The freshman class has an average high school grade-point average of 91 and an average combined math and critical reading SAT score of 1135. Acceptances of AALANA (African American, Latino, Asian and Native American) students were up 11.3% this year, and for the first time, AALANA students accounted for 1 in 5 new freshmen and transfer students.

SUNY Canton Students Recognized at Honors Convocation
Students who excelled academically were honored at SUNY Canton's 2013 Honors Convocation.
"Through your hard work and perseverance you have changed the fabric of our College," said Interim SUNY Canton President Carli C. Schiffner at the event held May 1. "Many of you are not only very accomplished academically, but also have given numerous hours of your time for service to our campus and community. We are a better institution because of your hard work and dedication."
The College's Honors Convocation is an annual, formal ceremony designed to recognize students' academic, civic and overall achievement. Each year, the ceremony is named after the most dedicated and revered faculty members of the College's history. This year's ceremony was named for SUNY Canton Distinguished Professor Emerita Nancy R. Auster, who taught for more than 25 years.
